September is National Recovery Month

Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities is the theme for this year's National Recovery Month presented by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as a way to increase awareness of mental health and substance use disorder conditions.

We join SAMHSA in the belief that behavioral health is critical to overall health. We know that prevention works; in fact, substance use disorders are 100 percent preventable! We also know that treatment is effective and that people can and do recover from substance use disorders.

Strengthening families and communities is a part of our DNA, so we're excited about this year's chosen theme. Please consider organizing an event in your city or town for Recovery Month. There are many ideas in SAMHSA's Recovery Month toolkit for organizing an event. The toolkit also contains tips for gaining recognition of your event; You'll also find sample PSAs, press releases, letters to the editor and social media posts in the toolkit, available in both English and Spanish at Recovery Month Toolkit.

Remember that events like these, built around a shared national issue, bring people together to experience real-life common stories that demonstrate the power found in recovery from substance use disorders. We look forward to reading about your events!
