From My Heart to Yours

September is National Recovery Month and I’m reminded of how much my life has changed since starting my recovery from addiction in 1988. Recovery is so much more than going to twelve-step meetings and not using alcohol or other drugs. It has given me a life that I could never have imagined! I have a dream job helping kids avoid the path I chose at age thirteen.

Alcohol and marijuana use helped me fit in at a new school on another continent. I never imagined it would lead to full-blown addiction and needing treatment sixteen years later.

That’s the thing---kids don’t think it will ever happen to them-and many parents write it off as a rite of passage.

This is why I’m so passionate about the work we do. We have been guiding kids toward healthy choices for 85 years! Our services have expanded, and our staff has changed, but our commitment to building resilient youth remains.

COVID-19 has presented serious financial challenges this year but we are not going to let a pandemic stop us. With your generous and continued support, via North Texas Giving Day and Recovery Night with the Dallas Wings, we will continue to have an impact for another 85 years.

From my heart to yours,

Becky
